Thin Air (or Thin Hair, due to the fact that half of them looked over
50, with the drummer looking like Phil Collins) were certainly the odd
band out. Their music was nothing like the other two bands and didn't
have the same urgency. Thin Air try to keep all their songs sounding
different, and this must be applauded. In this set alone, there was an
Irish influence (Marching Men), new wave punk (Love on the Internet),
and the opening song sounded like Velvet Underground with the wrong
singer (Do You Believe?). Thin Air also have three different singers who
each sing certain songs. The problem with this band was that the
majority of the material just plodded along and didn't really go
anywhere. Many of the songs just didn't leave any impression on me at
all; the ideas are good but just don't come across as they should. They
did, however, get a good response from the crowd, but they were
certainly not my kind of band and left me feeling longing for the end.
They are good musicians but the lyrics and songs need something more.
